New Minas, Nova Scotia Team Canada star Drake Batherson played a key role in Canada’s 3-1 win over Sweden!
During the gold medal game back on Friday night in Buffalo he set up the game winning goal!
When they were singing O Canada he gave shout out saying “Nova Scotia BABY!”
He arrived at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday evening. Cheers erupted as he walked through the arrivals gate. He said he plans to hang around home in New Minas for a few days, before he heads to Quebec after being traded.
Check out John Moore’s video here of the family reunion:
Drake’s been traded from Cape Breton to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada one of the top teams in the QMJHL. The Halifax Mooseheads are the top team overall right now.
The Ottawa Senators draft pick is the first Nova Scotian to win World Junior Gold since Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand 10 years ago. His famous stick from the tourney has been sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame!
On a personal note Drake’s late uncle Charlie MacMillan was my Radio and Television Technology teacher in Sydney Mines, Charlie was beaming with pride from the skybox. His other uncle is the legendary Cape Breton Rocker Matt Minglewood.
Yesterday afternoon Drake was welcomed back to his home rink at the Apple Dome in Berwick down in the Valley where dropped the puck and signed autographs for several hundred fans.
The tale of “The Two Drakes” continued yesterday as Drake Batherson of Team Canada and my son Drake Robinson was the referee for the games the puck drop. Robinson officiated Batherson when he played for his former team the Valley Wildcats in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League. It was a “Reunion of The Drakes” both with Caper roots.

Good luck with the Armada Drake Batherson from Hot Country 1035!
