Your Halifax Mooseheads landed some top talent at the QMJHL Draft in Saint John on Saturday.
The Moose picked a high-scoring forward with their first pick choosing Xavier Parent. In 34 games last year for the Quebec midget AAA hockey league’s Collège Esther-Blondin, the five-foot-seven, 164-pound forward recorded 34 goals and 55 points and a plus-19 rating. He reminds me of Herd alumni Darcy Ashley.
With pick number 13 the Mooseheads took Halifax Mac’s defenceman Justin Barron as the pipeline of players continues from the Macs to the Moose!
Last year in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League, the six-foot, 180-pound blueliner had six goals and 25 points in 38 games. Barron is from Halifax and grew up cheering and high fiving the Herd, it’s always cool to see the local kids get chosen by their hometown team!
In total, the Mooseheads made 12 choices at Saturday’s draft in Saint John, N.B., selecting nine forwards, two defenceman and one goaltender.
The Herd continues to build through the draft and will be a major contender this coming season.
Welcome to Moose Country, now I just gotta learn how to say their names…
