Sid Will Be Honoured Tonight!

Our own # 87 Sidney Crosby will be the headliner at a gala dinner tonight honouring Nova Scotia’s top 15 athletes of all time!

Cole Harbour’s native was voted the province’s number 1 athlete in a list compiled by the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, which is holding the dinner and fundraiser at the Nova Centre.

Our Phony Friday victim Bruce Rainnie, the hall of fame’s CEO, said the list was voted on by 36 Nova Scotian athletes, coaches and media representatives, as well as by members of the public. “35 of 36 had Sid at number 1, so it was near unanimous.”

The idea behind the dinner was to get all of the living members of the top 15 list in one room at one time.

Other athletes scheduled to attend tonight include curling Olympic canoeing medallist Steve Giles, international softball star Mark Smith, kayaking world champion Karen Furneaux, Canada’s top gymnast Ellie Black, Paralympic gold medallist Jamie Bone and Olympic kayaking medallist Mark de Jonge.

Curling Champ Colleen Jones was voted number 2 behind Sidney, the Calgary Flames Stanley Cup Champ Al MacInnis is third.

Proceeds from tonight’s to event will be shared by the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame and The Sidney Crosby Foundation, which assists charities that improve the lives of disadvantaged children.

Welcome home Sid and congrats to all of our deserving Nova Scotia athletes from Hot Country 1035!
