Montgomery Gentry has premiered the official music video for the “Drinking Along Song,” featuring some of the last performance footage of Troy Gentry before his tragic death in a helicopter crash last September. “I hate seeing [the video], because it reinforces the fact that he’s gone, yet I love seeing it because I can still see him,” Gentry’s widow, Angie, tells Billboard. “It’s bittersweet in so many ways. I love watching it because it’s a memory that is always going to be there, and I get to have that.
But it also reminds me that’s the only way I can see him now.” The video and single’s release coincide with the launch of the Troy Gentry Foundation, which will provide financial support to cancer research, assist military families and families in need, and help provide music education to future generations. “Troy’s friends and I were trying to figure out a way that we could honor Troy and keep his philanthropy efforts going forward,” bandmate Eddie Montgomery says about the charity. “We sat down one night and realized that if we started the Foundation, we could raise money and use that money to support the efforts of everything we have been working on in the past few years.”
