Yesterday was a strange one for a lot of people who had to deal with very limited access to social media. Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread outages for most of the day. “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps,” a Facebook spokesperson said. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.” The outage stretched beyond 14 hours and is believed to be the biggest interruption ever suffered by the social networks. In a Tweet, Facebook denied the outage was a result of a hacker attack. There is still no word on what caused the outage but things seem to be running normally today. #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown were quickly among the top trends on Twitter.

We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack.
