#HotCountrySkinny for November 21st

GARTH BROOKS talked a little more about lip-synching at the CMAs on yesterday’s

“Ellen”.  He compared award shows to Christmas trees, saying they’re both symbolic.  It’s what happens between him and his fans that matters. He didn’t think it would cause quite the uproar. He was simply trying to save his voice for the paying fans on his upcoming tour dates. They did 12 shows in 10 days and right in the middle of all of that was the CMA’s. DeGeneres seems to take the country superstar’s side in the controversy in the above clip, acknowledging that it was wise of him to save his voice for customers paying to see him in concert. Brooks says he’d make the same decision again. While on Ellen, Brooks also promoted his new anthology — the first issue, The First Five Years, was released last week — and fought off a scare by the talk show host without so much as a flinch.

You know the bro country sound is over when the people who were creating it can’t stand it.  That’s what CHACE RICE tells us. He wanted to get away from ‘Girl, perfect night, stars out, tailgate down, sippin’ on something, dirt road.’  I was tired of hearing it from so many artists.  I was tired of hearing about it from myself.  I was tired of singing about it.” Chase avoided those clichés in his new album, “Lambs & Lions”.  But don’t go thinking it’s going to put you to sleep.  One of the songs is called “Jack Daniel’s Showed Up” . . . and there’s a great story around that. This came up in a different interview.  He said he started bringing a bottle of Jack on stage, and it went so well that they worked out a sponsorship deal.  As you can imagine, that was a lot of fun . . . until he kind of overdid it. He started pouring it to everybody on stage, from the stage and then they told me, ‘Let’s just not pour out entire bottles onstage anymore.’  Jack Daniel’s asked me to rein it in, and when Jack Daniel’s speaks, you listen.”

DARIUS RUCKER is working with Habitat for Humanity to build houses in his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina.  He even put on a construction helmet to work on a house for a 31-year-old mother-of-two named Kenya.  He tells “People”, quote, “I feel so fortunate to be a small part of sharing her story.”

JOSH TURNER is all about deviled eggs cause he’s from in South Carolina and says, “I don’t think I’ve tasted a bad deviled egg.”

Country singer Jake Owen has been invited to play the Nashville Open in May. He made the announcement himself this week on social media. Owen played junior golf in Vero Beach and hoped to become a professional golfer before blowing out his left shoulder during a skiing accident while he attended Florida State. He started playing guitar, so that bad break turned into a very good one. ”

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE posed for a husband and wife group photo at Sunday’s AMAs.  If you’re like me, your eyes will be immediately drawn to TYLER HUBBARD’s wife Hayley and her beautiful baby bump.

As expected, TAYLOR SWIFT cruised to her fifth #1 on the Billboard 200.  Her new album “Reputation” sold 1.24 million copies in its first week, and virtually all of that is traditional sales, because she did not make it available for streaming.
