Jason MacLean has been re-elected for a second term as the president for the NSGEU. The provincial government held a convention last week where the voting took place. MacLean, originally from Sydney, has already served as president of the NSGEU for 3 years.

Firefighters from 6 departments on the South Shore spent part of Friday battling a blaze at Chester’s municipal waste facility. Crews were called to the Kaizer Meadow landfill near Upper Vaughan just after 7:00AM. No one was injured. The facility reopened on Saturday.

Halifax is going to consider a new bylaw that would create fines for unwanted flyer deliveries. Dropping flyers off at the end of a driveway would no longer be allowed and distributors would be prohibited from delivering to homes displaying a sign saying that flyers are not wanted. Individual contractors violating the bylaw could be ticketed $25 and companies $250.
