A shortage of substitute teachers is causing disruption within Nova Scotia schools. Until more teachers are hired, the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union has been calling retired teachers to come back into the classroom. The province has also attended job fairs, changed teacher certification regulations and established 2 part time bachelor of education programs.

Tests have begun this week at the Oxford sinkhole where geologists are hoping to learn how much bigger it could get. The hole appeared last summer in a park near the Lions Club, across the street from a Tim Hortons and gas station. When it was first discovered it was only the size of a dinner plate but now it’s almost as big as an Olympic sized swimming pool.
After being cancelled and reinstated in less than a week, Rugby Nova Scotia has already taken the first step at improving safety for high school players. Tackle clinics are being demonstrated on how to avoid injuries while playing. NS Rugby coaches agree the debate over the risks of the game after the decision to cancel the season has helped make player safety a top priority.
