Nova Scotia Justice Minister Mark Furey has announced that the province is putting a suspension on street checks. There has been lots of pressure from the community to ban street checks because people felt as though they were not being done at random. In Halifax reports found that black people were street checked 6 times more than white people.

A former Halifax taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger testified in court yesterday at his retrial. Bassam Al-Rawi was arrested in May 2015 after police found a woman unconscious and naked in the back seat of his cab. Al-Rawi says the only reason why his pants were unbuttoned when police found him was because they were too tight and made him uncomfortable when he was driving.

Nova Scotia’s first Hospice house is officially open in Halifax. The $7 million facility will provide a residence for people who need care but no longer require hospital care and treatment is no longer an option. As many as 200 patients per year could be served starting at the end of this month.
