Longtime Nova Scotia MP Scott Brison is stepping down from cabinet. Brison made the announcement online yesterday morning, saying he won’t run for re-election this year. His departure leaves a vacancy at the cabinet table and the Prime Minister’s Office says changes will be announced on Monday.

Premier Stephen McNeil says he’s concerned of confrontation as Northern Pulp works on its assessment for a plan to pump treated sewage into the Northumberland Strait. The provincial government has committed to stopping the flow of sewage from the Abercrombie mill to Boat Harbour lagoon by January 2020. The lagoon is next to the Pictou Landing First Nation.
A 3.8 magnitude earthquake hit an area 19 kilometres northwest of Saint John in New Brunswick yesterday morning. The earthquake hit at 9:50AM. The shaking only lasted between 5-10 seconds. No injuries were reported.
