Halifax Council has approved changes to its zoning by-laws dealing with the growth, retail sale & consumption of marijuana. Production facilities must be set back a minimum of 70 metres from homes, schools, parks & hospitals. Marijuana will become legal in Canada on Wednesday October 17th.


A brand of coleslaw sold across Eastern Canada is being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination. The Belleisle Farms brand of Cole Slaw is sold in 227 gram packages with a best before date of September 25th. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says anyone who has this product should throw it out or return it to the store where purchased.


The minister responsible for emergency management in Nova Scotia says it’s time to consider an approach to helping areas that experience water shortages in the summer. Communities in southwestern Nova Scotia like Argyle, Yarmouth & Barrington have many residents whose wells have run dry. The province announced yesterday it would purchase drinking water for those affected.
