A school bus carrying students slid off Old Sambro Road in Harrietsfield yesterday morning, hitting a power pole and landing on its side. The driver and 11 students on the bus were on their way to Herring Cove Junior High School. Everyone got themselves out of the bus before emergency officials arrived on the scene. Only one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.


Halifax regional council has voted to include tobacco in a bylaw that also bans cannabis smoking on city property. It’s one of the toughest laws of its kind in Canada. As of October 1st you will only be able to light up a cigarette in visibly marked designated smoking areas.


The provincial government is planning to build a new jail in Cape Breton. Justice Minister Mark Furey hasn’t provided many details yet but says the progress is in its early stages. Correctional facilities in Yarmouth, Pictou & Dartmouth have recently been renovated, which is prompting Furey to want to modernize the Cape Breton jail.
