Nicholas Butcher will serve 15 years in prison before he can apply for parole after he killed his girlfriend in Halifax while she was sleeping. 36 year old Butcher was convicted of second degree murder in the death of 32 year old Kristin Johnston, a local yoga instructor. Before Butcher committed the crime he had recently found out that Johnston was thinking about breaking up with him.


A Halifax police officer is facing charges after he stole money out of a driver’s wallet during a traffic stop in Dartmouth on August 12th. Constable Anthony Sparks with Halifax Regional Police has been charged with one count of theft under $5000. Sparks has been suspended with pay.


City officials in Windsor have decided to move ahead with plans for a new $10.5 million arena. The District of West Hants voted to approve the funding needed to build the arena on the Hants County Exhibition grounds. The majority of the funds for the proposed arena have been promised by the federal & provincial governments.
