RCMP have discovered a body in the ocean near Judique, Cape Breton. The body was found around 9:00AM yesterday. Police will not say if this is connected to the search for 31 year old Colin Beaton of Lower Sackville, who was reported missing on the weekend.


Police are investigating reports of gun shots fired Tuesday night in downtown Halifax. The gun shots were heard in the area of Uniacke Street around 10:30 on July 3rd. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.


Premier Stephen McNeil shuffled his cabinet yesterday and created a new department that underscores Nova Scotia’s mining sector. The former Department of Natural Resources will see its geoscience and mining division merge with Energy. The new department is called Energy and Mines and will be headed by former municipal affairs minister Derek Mombourquette.
