Sunny & 13
An iconic church in the north end of Halifax is getting a new name. The Cornwallis Street Baptist Church will be rebranded as New Horizons Baptist Church. The congregation wants to drop Cornwallis from the name as a show of support for Indigenous people upset with its connection to Edward Cornwallis, the founder of Halifax.
Halifax has put out a tender for a company to create a wooden platform between Dresden Row and Birmingham Street to narrow Spring Garden Road. It will help the city decide how to spend more than $10 million. It will run on the north side of the street and will also feature planter boxes, signs, and bicycle parking.
NSLC locations that will be selling cannabis later this year will be keeping product behind the counters. Customers will line up, consult menus and place their orders, which clerks will fill from behind a counter. The orders will then be placed in a sealed brown paper bag. The 12th location will be a standalone outlet on Clyde Street in downtown Halifax.
