A Cole Harbour man who was wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant is now in custody. RCMP stopped a vehicle on Caldwell Road in Cole Harbour around noon yesterday where Markel Downey was a passenger. Downey is facing a new trial on 3 charges of attempted murder.


2 nurses are being charged with forgery following the death of a 79 year old man found outside the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in February. 41 year old Tammy Carrigan-Warner & 47 year old Valerie MacGillivary are both former employees of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. Health authority CEO Janet Knox says both were let go “almost immediately” after the incident.


Nova Scotians will have 3 more locations to buy legal cannabis from this fall. Bridgewater, New Minas and Antigonish will join the 9 other NSLC stores that will sell cannabis. Once legalized, signs will be posted inside these specific NSLC locations with warnings about the dangers of mixing cannabis with alcohol.
