Halifax’s newest school will come equipped with a full lockdown system. The system will include automated announcements, blue strobe lights, exterior warning signs and will cost about $25,000. The new primary to grade 6 school will be constructed at the former LeMarchant-St. Thomas Elementary School site on Watt Street.

Butcher is accused of killing the Halifax yoga instructor, his former girlfriend, in March 2016. He has pleaded not guilty.
Demolition of Halifax’s Cogswell Interchange could begin in January 2019. The series of on-and-off ramps in the downtown area were constructed in the late 60s for a waterfront superhighway that was never actually built. The good news is that the plans to take down the aging interchange do not involve detouring traffic.
