Dozens of people rallied in downtown Halifax yesterday in support of a group of black janitors. The janitors say they were fired from their jobs after they revealed plans to file a human rights complaint based on allegations of racial discrimination. The unionized workers clean Founders Square and are lodging their complaints against the property manager, Armour Group Limited.


Doctors Nova Scotia has announced recommendations that will help minimize the harm when marijuana becomes legalized in Canada. Some of the recommendations include the legal age to purchase should be 21 and that it should be sold through government monopolies only. Once marijuana becomes legal there will be 9 NSLC locations that will sell it, including 2 in Halifax & 1 in Dartmouth.


A tender to demolish one of the city’s oldest rinks goes today as Saint Mary’s University has announced plans to replace the aging Alumni Arena. The 52 year old building on campus will be replaced with a new rink in the same location. The new arena will seat about 800 people and it will have an NHL size ice surface.
