Faculty from NSCAD are set to hit the picket line at 8:30 this morning in Halifax. The issues the union are struggling with are workload, compensation and job security. University staff say the collective agreement expired at the end of June last year and it’s time for change.

There’s been a spike in provincial poverty rates. In Nova Scotia when it comes to poverty rates for people under 18 years of age, it went up from 14% in 2016 to 17% in 2017. The overall trend for the last decade was going in the right direction, but something has happened in the last year and the government is working to determine the cause.
Halifax council met yesterday to debate the budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. A one million dollar grant request for the new Halifax YMCA was approved, $680,000 will go toward Halifax transit and 1.2 million will go to the Fall River fire station. The final budget vote will take place in mid April.
