Yesterday afternoon the statue of Edward Cornwallis was removed from the park that’s also named after him. The statue was strapped, hooked onto a crane and lifted it from its pedestal around 4:30 to a small crowd of cheering people. On Tuesday Halifax regional council voted 12-4 to remove the controversial statue of the military officer who founded Halifax in 1749.

A new trial has been ordered for a Halifax cab driver who was acquitted of sexual assault in a case involving an intoxicated female passenger. The Nova Scotia Court of Appeal released the decision yesterday in the case of Bassam Al-Rawi. The woman, who hasn’t decided yet whether she will testify again, has her identity protected by the court.

Police in New Glasgow are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a mobile home Tuesday night. It took Firefighters 3 hours to put out the fire on Skylark Street in Greens Trailer Court. A man was treated at the scene & released. No other injuries were reported.
