Several relatives of Kawthar Barho have obtained visitor visas and will come to Halifax to support her after her 7 children died in a house fire last week. The Barho family’s home on Quartz Drive in Spryfield caught fire during the night on February 19th. Halifax MP Andy Fillmore says no further information about the relatives will be released as they have asked for privacy at this time.
3 cougars were spotted outside a home near Digby last week by a woman who caught them on camera. Bob cats have been seen in the area before but these cats were much bigger. The last time a confirmed sighting of a cougar was recorded on the east coast was at Fundy National Park in New Brunswick in 2003.

Canada has been ordered to pay over $7 million in damages to a U.S. concrete company that used the NAFTA agreement to argue it was wrongly denied permission to build a quarry in Nova Scotia. Concrete company, Bilcon, was seeking $443 million in compensation. Global Affairs Canada says it welcomed the judge’s decision to only award Bilcon a minimal portion of the damages.
