Special weather statement in effect for Thursday: A major winter storm is expected to affect Nova Scotia. Some areas could see up to 30cm or snow or 30mm of rain.

A 64 year old man has died after his car was hit from behind on Highway 103 on NYE. The collision happened around 3:00PM in Upper Tantallon between exits 5 and 5A. The man, from Lunenburg County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A new program in Nova Scotia that helps sexual assault survivors has referred 30 people to lawyers in its first 7 weeks. Within the program, people assaulted in Nova Scotia are offered two 2 hour sessions with a lawyer. Participants are not obligated to report the assault to police but it allows them to discuss the criminal process.

About 100 people came together at a Nova Scotia beach yesterday morning to help rescue a beached pilot whale. Some volunteers poured water on the whale as others shoveled a path to the water at Rainbow Haven Beach in Cow Bay. Finally people in wetsuits guided the whale to a safe distance away from shore.
