A psychiatrist who interviewed accused murderer Christopher Garnier believes that he is suffering from acute stress disorder. Dr. Stephen Hucker testified yesterday at Garnier’s second-degree murder trial in Halifax. 30 year old Garnier is also accused of interfering with human remains. He has pleaded not guilty to both counts.


40% of family physicians who work in Dartmouth are set to retire within the next 5 years. This will make recruiting new doctors in Nova Scotia no longer just a rural issue. The NDP revealed the stats this week at the Nova Scotia Legislature.


More than 16,000 low income people who live in Halifax will get free bus passes under a new poverty reduction program. Halifax Mayor Mike Savage says that public transit performs a vital role in helping residents get to work, appointments, child care and school. Nova Scotia is investing $20 million over the next 4 years into programs to reduce poverty.
