Two special constables with Halifax Regional Police have been charged with criminal negligence causing death. 41 year old Corey Rogers was found unresponsive in a cell at Halifax police headquarters in June 2016 after he was arrested for public intoxication. Daniel Fraser and Cheryl Gardner were both working as booking officers on the night of Rogers’s arrest.

49 people were laid off at Donkin mine in Cape Breton yesterday. The mine’s vice president says the lay offs were necessary so the company can try to increase production to make the operation more economically viable. All the laid off miners are Cape Bretoners who are now looking to move out west for work.

Argyle Street in downtown Halifax will remain closed to traffic for another week. It was supposed to reopen to traffic last night after a weekend grand opening party. The city says the delay is to facilitate final touches, repairs of minor deficiencies and Halifax Water inspections.
