AUS has suspended 15 players and both head coaches because of a hockey fight that broke out last weekend in Wolfville between Acadia and St. FX. The brawl started because a player made an inappropriate comment involving the word “rapist.” In total 9 St. FX players have been handed suspensions adding up to 21 games & 6 Acadia players adding up to 14 games.
RCMP are searching for suspects after a shooting incident that happened yesterday afternoon in Cole Harbour. Around 4PM two cars were seen driving near Robert K. Turner Elementary School when one man leaned far out the window of one car and began shooting at occupants in the car ahead of it. No one appeared to be injured.

A Nova Scotia couple who regularly gave marijuana to the woman’s 13 year old son have been sent to jail. The couple who live near Bridgewater were both in their 30s, unemployed, had only a Grade 9 education and multiple prior convictions. The mother has been ordered to serve 45 days in jail, while the stepfather was jailed 90 days.
The Royal Canadian Mint is paying tribute to a civil rights pioneer from Nova Scotia with its first Black History Month coin. The silver collector coin pays tribute to Viola Desmond, who was arrested and put on trial for refusing to sit in the segregated section of a movie theatre in New Glasgow in 1946. The coin will be issued in time for what would have been Desmond’s 105th birthday, on July 6.
