Halifax regional councillors are reacting to proposed tax hikes for the next 2 years that would add $100 to the average bill. If the proposal is approved, the average tax bill in 2019 would jump 2.9% or $56. Councillor Waye Mason says he’s not interested in either option.

Premier Stephen McNeil rejected the idea that Boat Harbour could stay open longer than planned. McNeil says it’s time for Northern Pulp to come up with a workable solution for treating millions of litres of emissions daily. The treatment plant at Boat Harbour is scheduled to close in January 2020.

Police are investigating after a 57 year old woman drowned in a lake in Guysborough County Monday night. 2 men found the woman in Indian Harbour Lake and began performing CPR. Police believe the woman may have been trying to rescue a dog on the ice covered lake.
