After 18 months on the picket line, unionized newsroom staff of The Chronicle Herald have ratified a new contract. The vote finalized an agreement that will see half the members of the Halifax Typographical Union laid off and a 5% wage cut across the board. The new 8 year deal between The Chronicle Herald and its workers passed with 94% support.

A husband and wife from Nova Scotia who were suspects in a 2012 double homicide have been charged with second-degree murder. 65 year old Elmer Higgins and 49 year old Karen Higgins were arrested after the bodies of 2 men were found in a burned cabin in Sheet Harbour. The 2 men, 22 year old Matthew Hebb and 59 year old Earle Stewart, were both from Spryfield.

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a robbery suspect. Around 1:00PM on Tuesday a man entered a store on Herring Cove Road, pointed a handgun, and demanded money from the cashier. The suspect was last seen leaving on foot. Anyone with information about is asked to call police.
