A Halifax man will be sentenced in October after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. 24 year old Devon Downey pleaded guilty in the August 2012 death of 26 year old Kaylin Diggs. Police found Diggs lying on the ground at the corner of Argyle and Sackville streets and died later in hospital.

Some restaurants in downtown Halifax are looking to cut back on waste by taking straws and plastic stir sticks off their menu. Some bars admit they’ve ordered and used more than 500,000 plastic straws per year. One restaurant owner says they’re looking into alternatives but haven’t had any luck yet finding an eco-friendly straw.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced that a brand of chicken nuggets are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. The President’s Choice pub recipe chicken nuggets have been sold nationwide in 800 gram boxes with a best-before date of March 15, 2018. The CFIA says that food contaminated with salmonella may not appear spoiled but can still cause illness.
