Mainly cloudy, might see the sun peek out but we have a chance of showers this afternoon and a high of 26 but it’ll feel like 31 with the humidity.

Halifax Mayor Mike Savage is expressing concerns about a plan to remove the Edward Cornwallis statue this coming weekend. ‘Removing Cornwallis’, a local Facebook group, has the event planned for this Saturday. The group is inviting people to join them to peacefully remove the statue of Halifax’s founder, who issued a bounty on Mi’kmaq scalps in 1749.

Yesterday in court Taylor Samson’s mother, Linda Boutilier, asked William Sandeson where her son is. Sandeson was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole for 25 years for the murder of Samson, whose body has never been found. Yesterday’s sentencing hearing was an opportunity for Samson’s family and friends to say how much the loss means to them.

Within Atlantic Canada a highly contagious infection is spreading through finch populations. The problem is a certain type of parasite which causes an infection in the throats of birds, making them unable to swallow. President of the Nova Scotia Bird Society, Dave Currie, says the infection is among the worst he’s seen in 40 years of observing birds in Nova Scotia.
