Emergency repairs to a water main at the intersection of Cobequid Road and Glendale Avenue in Lower Sackville stretched into this morning causing traffic delays. Halifax Water says the damages were reported after 5:00PM yesterday. Once the water main is repaired residents may see fire hydrants running to flush the lines of dirty water.


A Campobello Island man has died after trying to rescue a whale in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Fisheries and Oceans Canada confirmed the fatal incident happened aboard one of their vessels yesterday. Joe Howlett had been working to rescue whales for years.


The Liberal government’s decision to stop nearly finished reviews of 17 Dartmouth area schools is coming as a shock to the chair of the Halifax Regional School Board. David Wright says he knew the Liberals were going to revamp the review process, but didn’t expect them to stop working so close to being done. Education Minister Zach Churchill is denying the work of the review committees is being scrapped. He says this is just a pause.
