Elections Nova Scotia has found that PC candidate Steve Craig did not violate the Elections Act. The complaint by the New Democrats was that Craig may have used his position as a councillor for HRM to promote himself in the byelection. Craig attended a community function on the same day the writ was issued, where he presented a cheque for $20,000 to the ‘Friends of First Lake Society’.


The American woman convicted of plotting an attack at the Halifax Shopping Centre on Valentine’s Day in 2015 has lost her appeal to overturn her sentence. Lindsay Souvannarath pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. She was sentenced to life in prison and the judge ordered that she serve a minimum of 10 years before she could apply for release.


The MacDonald Bridge will be closed for paving this Saturday starting at 7:00AM and wrapping up around 9:00PM. Crews will pave the bridge’s road deck, sidewalk and bike lanes. As a result, the bike lane and sidewalk will also be closed but a shuttle will be provided.
