Those of us who use our commutes as our own personal concerts may want to rethink that decision, especially if you live in Montreal!
A man in Montreal named Taoufik Moalla was recently pulled over by the police for – you guessed it – singing!
He was enjoying his drive, jamming to Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) – and I mean, really, who DOESN’T get into that song when it comes on? – when he noticed police lights and sirens behind him. Naturally, he assumed they wanted to pass. After all, he wasn’t speeding, or doing anything illegal. Or at least, as far as he knew.
To his surprise, an officer came over the speaker and asked Taoufik to pull over. He did as he was told, and four officers came to his car, asking if he was screaming. He told them that he was simply just singing. The officers checked his license and registration, as per protocol.
When they returned, Taoufik was hit with a fine of $149! The reason? A Montreal bylaw that includes “causing disorder by screaming”. Thankfully, he kept his calm, and understands the officers are just doing their job. He even cracked a few jokes, saying maybe his singing wasn’t very good!
So the next time you want to put on your own personal concert in your car, maybe keep the “screaming” to a minimum!
