The new trend these days for airlines seems to be mistreating your customers and beating the holy hell out of them. To be fair, the most recent beating happened between two passengers, with one of them being arrested for assaulting an airline employee.
We need some good news, and this Southwest Airlines pilot is the perfect man to do it. Captain John Richie, a retiree of the United States Air Force has been flying commercial planes since his retirement. Since day one he has been tracking the number of passengers that he has flown and most recently reached the milestone of one million. He considered this a big deal (of course) and wanted to do something nice for that customer.
He said, “Today, I’m flying with my one millionth passenger.” He gave the lucky flyer a bottle of champagne and “in addition to that,” he said, “I did a little bit of snooping, and I found out how much you paid for your ticket. So in an envelope, I have in cash the amount of money you paid for your ticket.”
This is the story and pilot that we needed to emerge from the dark shadows of airline passenger mistreatment.
