Maybe Halifax Transit should adopt a Manspread Policy…?
Spain’s capital has taken a stand against manspreading by launching a campaign that discourages men from sitting with their legs apart and encroaching on other passengers’ space.
Starting yesterday, Madrid authorities started putting up signs that feature an illustration of a manspreader with a big red “X” above it.
The text beneath urges passengers to “respect the space of others.” Madrid’s municipal transportation company was inspired to put a manspreading ban in place following an online signature campaign by a woman’s group.
There will be no sanctions or fines for those indulging in manspreading, but authorities say that the signs have been well received thus far. “When a person opens their legs so wide it disturbs others, this is rude,” bus passenger Alvaro Gomez Jordana says “It’s also uncomfortable having to ask someone, ‘Please, can you close your legs’.
